PRESS RELEASE
Bomb Threat at SENESCO
On Thursday June 16th at approximately 10:30 AM North Kingstown
Police received a call from a 911 operator alerting police
to two calls that they had received concerning the possibility
of a pipe bomb being on the SENESCO property located in the
Quonset Point Industrial Park. The male caller hung up when
the 911 operator connected him with the North Kingstown Police
Dispatcher.
The u male caller stated that two pipe bombs may be located
on the grounds of the SENESCO shipyard and that another bomb
may be delivered this evening. In conjunction with the SENESCO
administration all three SENESCO yards within the Quonset
Point Industrial Park were immediately evacuated and the RI
State Fire Marshall Office and the State Bomb Squad were notified
as was Electric Boat Security and the Rhode Island State Police.
Electric Boat Security evacuated a portion of their shipyard
that borders the main SENESCO yard as a further precaution.
Bomb sniffing dogs from the RI State Bomb Squad, Warwick
Police and the State Police were brought in to search all
three SENESCO yards. A search of Electric Boat property bordering
SENESCO was conducted as a further precaution. All searches
failed to turn up any evidence of the bombs the caller mentioned.
Upon completion of the search SENESCO, employees were sent
home for the rest of the day by SENESCO officials.
At this time the North Kingstown Police are actively pursing
the investigation as to the identity of the caller
